Sustainable Destination Development

If the carrying capacity of a destination is not considered and it is solely focused on mass tourism or inviting more visitors, it will deteriorate the natural, cultural and historical well-being of the particular destination. In a long run, the haphazard tourism development will impact adversely on local communities, culture, wildlife, natural resources and infrastructures that ultimately the destination loos the attraction. For example, dirty river, air/noise pollution, loss of wildlife, erosion of landscape, etc is the display of non-sustainable development which doesn’t attract many visitors anymore.   TREES is focused on protecting the destination via an in-depth research of solutions, advising policymakers, capacity building of destination stakeholders/ leaders, involving local knowledge, strengthening community resilience,  developing and promoting standards, norms, values, and promotion, impact monitoring of the destination, etc.
